The first question most people are going to ask is, “Can I get the new Smokehouse BBQ Bacon Sandwich fried?” Of course you can, but you will need to special order it. The special order will take a little bit longer, but we all know Chick-Fil-A is extremely efficient therefore it will not take long for your sandwich to get to your table.
I tried this sandwich for the first time on June 3rd, 2019 at the 15-501 Durham location. This was the first time I noticed it on the menu and I am always willing to give new Chick-Fil-A sandwiches a try. So, how was it?
Overall, I would rate it a 3 out of 5. Living in Chapel Hill, I am used to the bacon from Merritt’s. This is a very high standard as Merritt’s has been repeatedly voted the best BLT in North Carolina. The bacon was average, at best.
The Smokehouse BBQ sauce was not the type of BBQ sauce North Carolinians are going to go crazy for. If you grew up in North Carolina you know there is eastern style BBQ (more vinegar based) and western style BBQ (more sugar and sweet based). The Smokehouse BBQ is more like a Kansas City BBQ as it is a mixture of both. It has almost a tangy taste.
Maybe it is the fact that I got it fried and it is not meant to be fried, but all the combined tastes took away from the actual taste of the chicken sandwich. There are not many times that I have visited a Chick-Fil-A and didn’t “taste” the chicken sandwich when I ate it.
If you are looking for an enhanced fried chicken sandwich, this is not the way to go. Just order the #1 with fries and a sweet tea. If you want to get frisky, add some pepper jack cheese to it; nothing else!
